About Alfred B. Maclay Gardens State Park
The beautiful ornamental gardens were first planted in 1923 by Alfred B. and Louise Maclay after they purchased the property for their winter home. Lake Hall provides opportunities for swimming, fishing, canoeing and kayaking. Pavilions and grills along the lakeshore provide the perfect setting for a picnic.
For walking enthusiasts, two short nature trails meander through the woods overlooking the lake. Hikers, bicyclists and equestrians can enjoy six miles of shared-use trails and five miles of designated biking trails winding through the woods surrounding Lake Overstreet, located on park property adjoining the gardens.

Alfred B. Maclay Gardens State Park is a beautiful place to relax and enjoy nature. The gardens are well maintained, with scenic walking paths, peaceful lakes, colorful flowers, and plenty of wildlife to spot. Even outside of peak bloom season, the park has a quiet charm that's worth experiencing. Whether you're looking for a leisurely walk, a picnic, photography, or simply a peaceful escape, this park has something for everyone. Plan to spend a couple of hours exploring the gardens and trails ,it's one of Tallahassee's most memorable outdoor attractions.

Maclay Gardens really comes alive in the spring, but is beautiful year-round. As far as Florida State Parks go, this is really more on the small side, but still one for the bucket list. You can easily walk the grounds in 1-2 hours. We love to explore the gardens and enjoy the mixture of native and cultivated plants. Itβs an easy walk paved with historic bricks up to the Maclay house, and a few steps down to the reflection pool, or wheelchairs can navigate a slight incline hill.

This is a truly hidden gem of a park. Plenty of beautiful garden spots to sit and enjoy the views. Bring a picnic basket and blanket. Sit by the lake or the various ponds. Enjoy the turtles, the deer, the squirrels. This is a really nice park even when there's no blooms.

This is one of the most beautiful parks we have visited. We went during peak bloom season for the formal gardens, so it was an additional $6 pp for garden entry. Well worth the price. There were so many beautiful blooms to see and it was so serene. Maclay Historic House is also open to the public during this time of year, so we did a walk through. We had lunch at the picnic tables by the lake. There is also self service kayak rentals you could utilize and a small beach area roped off for swimming in warmer weather. We didn't explore any hiking trails today but would like to do so in the future.

Beautiful day to spend walking the park and visiting the museum. A lot has changed in 40 years. Day trip back then too. Gardens were beautiful. A young couple was getting married so tried to stay outta the way. Great picnic area, swimming, fishing and boating. Prices were not bad at all.
